Payment Services Directive (PSD) is a European Union Directive on payment and settlement services. This Directive was adopted by the Council of the European Union in April 2001, and ratified by the European Parliament and the European Commission in November 2001. The purpose of this Directive is to harmonize national laws on payment service provider (PSP) activities across the European Union.

The Psd2 directive is a scheme that was launched by the EU to make sure that the data of the EU users is kept safe. This directive will define the responsibilities of the data controllers and the data processors with the aim to ensure that the data of the user is kept safe and sound.t has a lot of similarities with the Digital Economy Act that was passed here in the UK and gave us the 'three strikes' rule and stricter controls on torrent sites. The law was rushed through to meet the February deadline, with some of the details still up in the air, so implementation is still a long way off.
