Do all bike chains have a master link.
#1
The master link is the extra-wide link that connects the sprockets on the back of the bicycle chain. The gap between the two links should be at least an eighth of an inch. It should be easily visible and easy to locate. All chains have one, but some have more than one. The master can be a bit harder to locate, so you'll have to look for it in more places.

One of the most common types of master links is the "split" link. This type of master link comes with two pins that are connected to a single plate. These links have been around for decades. They're commonly used in hub-geared drivetrains and single-speed bikes. These links are also used in bikes with wide-spaced sprockets. The pins are spaced the same pitch as the chain, and a second plate fits over the pins. A spring clip secures the connections.

When you're riding your bike, you'll often see a master link attached to the back of the chain. This is the piece that's permanently fused to the chain. This means that you can remove the entire chain at any time. The master-link can be removed with the new chain, or can be plugged into the existing chain as needed. However, it is important to remember that it's important to check the size of the master-link to ensure it's the right size for your bicycle.
